Marsden Mechanics are putting on great gigs this summer for just fifty each

A music venue in Huddersfield is holding several gigs and a festival this summer where it will cost just a fifty.

The shows were organized by Marsden Mechanics and supported by Arts Council England, which is why the price is so low.

Consisting of five live music events, the program supports 83 artists performing a range of genres not represented in the area and aims to attract crowds from across Yorkshire.

Each night will be radically different as genres include jazz, blues and traditional Irish to immersive soundscapes, reggae and dub.

Marsden Mechanics Development Manager Jonny Kelly said: “The main aim behind the new initiative is for everyone to have the opportunity to access high-calibre cultural and artistic events and experiences, regardless of their location or financial status.

“As part of this commitment, tickets will be capped at £5 to remove financial barriers to access to culture and entertainment.”

Four shows to run under the scheme are:

Onwards Festival, Saturday 20 July: Known as the ‘roaming musical spectacle’, this one-day festival takes place at venues across the Colne Valley. This year, Marsden Mechanics will host the festival finale with performances from Axis Valv-a-Tron – the original Reggae Revival sound system – and King Zepha, the songwriter and producer known for heavy double bass, global beats and dub delays.

The Irish Arts Foundation presents… Yorkshire v Lancashire, Friday 16th August: A night of traditional Irish music where Yorkshire’s best musicians go head to head with Lancashire’s top talent. The rich tapestry of Irish folk music gives way to subtle nuances of Northern England heritage, creating a truly unique evening of musical brilliance.

The Pat Fulgoni Blues Experience, Friday, September 6: Renowned vocalist Pat Fulgoni fronts a soulful 5-piece Blues ensemble in an evening of iconic covers and powerful originals. Described as “the real deal”, Pat’s voice doesn’t just lend itself well to blues and has a CV that includes the likes of Camo & Krooked, Coldcut and Technimatic to name a few.

Sonic Threads Sunday September 15th: A daring and innovative duo, Sonic Threads transcend cultural and genre boundaries as Lucy Nolan and Supriya Nagarajan seamlessly blend Eastern and Western influences in their performances. The duo is heavily influenced by the spiritual movement pioneered by Alice Coltrane, and both Supriya and Lucy capture that meditative quality in their performances.

Marsden Mechanics has several other events lined up over the coming months, some of which are also just £5. To see the full line-up visit https://www.marsdenmechanics.co.uk/events/
