1 dead, 2 injured, including bystander, in Birmingham shooting

A conflict between two men in a Birmingham flat led to a gun battle that left one dead, another injured and a woman who was an innocent bystander in hospital this afternoon.

The violence broke out around 11 a.m. at the Carson Crest Apartment on Carson Road in east Birmingham, police spokesman Officer Truman Fitzgerald said.

Police said a woman who was at a nearby church was taken by emergency personnel to a hospital with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.

Fitzgerald said two adult males were taken to St. Vincent’s East by private vehicle. One of the men was pronounced dead and the other has life-threatening injuries.

“When the officers began to investigate, they learned that the two men were involved in an argument and one of the men pulled out a gun and the two of them struck each other,” Fitzgerald said. “We think the female just got caught in the crossfire.”
