Four people rushed to hospital after funfair ride ‘malfunction’

A serious breakdown at a ride at Lambeth Country Show today saw four people rushed to hospital and an air ambulance sent to Brockwell Park.

A spokesman for Lambeth Police said:

“Emergency services responded at around 6.20pm on Saturday to a fairground run which had failed at Lambeth Country Show in Brockwell Park.

“Four people were transported to the hospital. We are waiting for an evaluation of their conditions. No one is caught in the race.”

Two hours ago, they added:

Inquiries are being made to establish the circumstances.

Cords are installed on site.

The Health and Safety Director will be informed.

The four people taken to Brockwell Park hospital are a man and woman in their 40s, a man in his 50s and an 11-year-old girl.

“None of the four are believed to be in a life-threatening condition. We await full hospital assessments.

A spokesman for the London Ambulance Service said:

“We were called today (June 8) at 6.18pm to reports of an incident at Brockwell Park, SE24.

“We sent more resources to the scene, including four ambulance crews and members of our hazardous area response team.

We also dispatched the London Air Ambulance.

“We treated four people at the scene and took them all to major trauma centers.”

A spokesman for Lambeth Council said:

The incident was reported at around 6.20pm today (June 8) and emergency services rushed to the scene to treat four people who were injured.

Paramedics and crews at the scene cordoned off the area and the injured were taken to nearby hospitals for further treatment.

The situation is being closely monitored. The area around the race is secured and the funfair has been closed.

A thorough investigation is conducted to determine the cause of the failure.

Additional safety inspections are conducted on all rides and attractions at the show.

Helen Hayes MP tweeted/X:

I am shocked to learn of the failure of a fair race at Lambeth Country Show earlier this evening.

My thoughts are with those who were injured and all who witnessed this horrific event.

We thank the emergency services that intervened.
