Phil Hay says Stuart Dallas has held talks with Leeds United over his next move after retirement

Phil Hay says Stuart Dallas has held a conversation with Leeds United to discuss his next move after the Elland Road favorite announced his retirement due to his long-term knee injury.

Dallas, 33, confirmed towards the end of the season that he will retire after two years have passed since he last played. A collision with Jack Grealish saw Dallas suffer a knee injury.

Numerous surgeries, constant rehab and a fight to bounce back ended in heartbreak for the Leeds icon. A key player for Marcelo Bielsa, winning Player of the Season in his first season back in the Premier League.

Dallas ends a nine-year spell at Leeds, playing 266 times for the club. The club’s retained list confirmed that Dallas will leave the club as a player and the Northern Irishman’s contract will come to an end.

What’s next for Dallas? Well, Hay gave an update on The Square Ball. He says Dallas could end up staying at Elland Road in a different role and there have been talks about it at Leeds.

Phil Hay says Stuart Dallas could stay at Leeds in a new role

It’s unclear if Dallas made any coaching badges, but you’d imagine that while he was on the sidelines, he would have considered doing it and could have started the process of getting into the dugout.

Speaking on The Square Ball, Hay says he is very interested in what Dallas do next and claims there have been discussions between the club and the 62-time Northern Ireland star about what happens next for Dallas.

“Obviously, Dallas pulled out. Really interested to see what he does if he goes into coaching. There has been a little chat with Leeds about what might come next with him. I expect he’s taking time to take stock.”

There are already some big names in the Leeds coaching set-up

Aaron Lennon was recently spotted in a coaching role and in a Leeds kit, while Stewart Downing was announced as the club’s assistant manager for the Under-21 side at Elland Road.

But it is likely that if Dallas wants to take on a role on the coaching side of things at Leeds then Leeds would find a space for him. Considering how much he has given the club over the years, on the pitch.

Many changes are expected in terms of personnel and playing staff this summer, but having a constant in and around Thorp Arch in the form of Dallas would be a good move by the club.
