Leeds United’s ‘big cash’ swap deal proposed as Joe Rodon transfer hit back

A swap deal involving Wales centre-back Joe Rodon and Leeds United starlet Archie Gray has received backing as the Whites hope to bring Spurs back to Elland Road next season.

Rodon has been outstanding for Daniel Farke’s men in the last term and helped them to the brink of promotion back to the Premier League. However, they fell at the last hurdle, losing to Southampton in the play-off final, meaning the futures of several players now hang in the balance.

Two of those are Rodon and Gray, the latter of whom is set for huge things in the game. At just 18, he has led games from numerous positions and Leeds are keen to keep him in Yorkshire, but Spurs have been backed to make a move for the teenager.

Former Spurs defender Alan Hutton believes he is the perfect fit for Ange Postecoglou’s side, adding that any move would have to involve “big cash” as well as the Swansea City graduate.

“It would have to be big money, not just Rodon, I think there would be a lot of money on top of that,” he told Football Insider.

“He had an amazing season. The guy played full back, played midfield, played as a number 10, the list goes on.

“I think it’s only going to get better. They play with such freedom and it’s refreshing to see.

“The way Ange plays suits him perfectly. He is comfortable coming inside and taking the ball with his back to play and getting forward with his ability to cross into the box.

“He’s so young too. It will be a big fee, but looking ahead, if they can bring in someone like him now, he could be there for years to come.

“It would be a brilliant signing for them.”
