Four people, including an 11-year-old girl, were rushed to hospital after a fairground ride ‘collapsed’ in Lambeth

Four people were rushed to hospital after a fairground ride ‘collapsed’ at the Lambeth Country Show.

Emergency services were called to Brockwell Park after the race malfunctioned on Saturday night.

Among the four injured people are a 40-year-old man and woman, a 50-year-old man and an 11-year-old girl. None of their injuries are considered life-threatening.

A spokesman for Lambeth Police said: “Emergency services responded at around 6.20pm on Saturday to a fairground run gone wrong at Lambeth Country Show in Brockwell Park.

“Four people were transported to the hospital. We are waiting for an evaluation of their conditions. No one is caught in the race.”

A London Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We were called at 6.18pm today (June 8) to reports of an incident at Brockwell Park, SE24.

“We sent more resources to the scene, including four ambulance crews and members of our hazardous area response team. We also dispatched the London Air Ambulance.

“We treated four people at the scene and took them all to major trauma centers.”

Inquiries are being made to establish the circumstances and cordons are in place at the location. The Health and Safety Director will be informed.

A spokesman for Lambeth Council said: “The incident was reported at around 6.20pm today (June 8) and emergency services quickly attended the scene to treat four people who were injured.

“Paramedics and teams at the scene cordoned off the area and those who were injured were taken to nearby hospitals for further treatment.

“The situation is being closely monitored. The area around the race is secured and the funfair has been closed.

“A thorough investigation is being carried out to determine the cause of the malfunction.

“Additional safety inspections are being carried out on all rides and attractions at the show

“Thank you to the emergency services for their quick response and dedication. The safety and well-being of our visitors remains our top priority.”

Helen Hayes, Labour’s parliamentary candidate for Dulwich and West Norwood, expressed her shock at learning of the incident.

She said: “I am shocked to learn of the failure of a ride at Lambeth Country Show earlier this evening. My thoughts are with those who were injured and all who witnessed this horrific event.

“Thank you to the emergency services that attended. Now there must be an urgent investigation.”

The Lambeth Country Show is a popular annual event held in Brockwell Park.

The show usually takes place on a weekend in June or July and attracts tens of thousands of visitors.

Known for its unique mix of urban and rural activities, it offers a wide range of attractions and entertainment for people of all ages, including live music, dance and theater performances.
