The fire, which broke out just before 6pm on Tuesday August 16, destroyed the roof of the three-storey property on the corner of Watford Way and Hendon Lane. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used jets and drums to extinguish the blaze, which was visible for miles around. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation but the Metropolitan Police said it was not being treated as suspicious. A spokesman for London Fire Brigade said: “The fire was a large and complex incident and our crews worked hard to bring it under control. “We would like to thank the local community for their patience and understanding while we dealt with the incident.” The road was closed for several hours while firefighters tackled the blaze.

Firefighters are battling a house fire in Hendon

On Wednesday June 5, six fire engines and around 40 firefighters responded to a house fire on Vivian Avenue in Hendon. The London Fire Brigade reported that the roof of a derelict house had been completely destroyed by fire. Parts of the ground floor and first floor also sustained damage. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. During the operation, one of the brigade’s 32-metre ladders was deployed as a water tower to help extinguish fires from above. Brigade control officers received about 30 calls about the fire. The fire was first reported at 19:34 and was brought under control by 20:47. Firefighters from Hendon, Finchley, West Hampstead and Mill Hill fire stations attended the scene.
