Man Utd-linked man of ‘huge stature’ would be of particular value to Lisandro Martinez next season

Manchester United will be busy in the summer transfer window. One player who is heavily linked is Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite.

The English centre-back has taken the Premier League by storm this season. He was instrumental in keeping Everton up and was also part of the side that kept the second-best spell in all of England’s top flight.

This is why it now has a high price. The Toffees are said to be seeking around £40million for his signature. Which, in the grand scheme of things, isn’t exactly breaking the bank — given some of United’s past purchases.

He would be a fabulous addition to Manchester United’s first team squad. TalkSport pundit Tony Cascarino agrees.

Tony Cascarino on Jarrad Branthwaite amid Manchester United interest

Manchester United need a centre-back and there are few better there than the Everton man. Despite not being part of Gareth Southgate’s England Euro 2024 squad, the 21-year-old still has a huge future ahead of him.

Cascarino spoke to TalkSport on Sunday morning (8:12AM) about the Manchester United target and had high praise for the Englishman.

“Huge stature again, physically, he had an outstanding season, he really did at Everton. I thought his partnership with (James) Tarkowski was very, very good at times. He grew throughout the season as a player and in his performances. And the downside of him being somewhat dropped from the England squad, the high is that he could move to Manchester United. So obviously they think a lot of him.”

He was extremely solid and it really was a poor Everton side under Sean Dyche. A move to Old Trafford could see him flourish even more as a player. It could also affect other United players.

Will Jarrad Branthwaite affect Lisandro Martinez at Manchester United?

Branthwaite’s signing would naturally mean a centre-back would drop out of the running for the starting XI, with bypassing Harry Maguire the likely option, that is if Lisandro Martinez is fit. Cascarino agrees.

He told TalkSport: “If you told me between the two of them (Maguire and Branthwaite), because obviously they’re both 6ft 4in, 6ft 5in players, he’s quick. He is much faster and I think that is the outstanding characteristic. If you look alongside Martinez, who is, you know, if he’s fit, he’s a hell of a player for Manchester United.

“If he’s with a lad who’s very good in the air, dominant and in the air, Branthwaite, he’s good at set-pieces, attacking and defending. I think you’re getting someone who’s a little faster. Obviously, Ten Hag or whoever is there over the summer and next season needs more pace in the center of their defence.”

The only worrisome thing about this partnership is that both would be left-handed. Erik ten Hag likes a left-footed and a right-footed centre-half, so it would be strange to see the young England international and Butcher deployed together.

However, two class players who could form a formidable partnership. Would you take Branthwaite to Manchester United?
