West Brom are one of two new clubs to join Sheffield Wednesday in the race for the ‘magic’ man.

Sheffield Wednesday’s competition to sign a ‘magical’ free agent is heating up.

Sheffield Wednesday are desperate to strengthen their squad this summer as they look to improve their chances of a top-half finish.

While they have been linked with a number of new players, they are also keen to re-sign the trio who impressed while on loan last season.

James Beadle, Ike Ugbo and Ian Poveda have all made significant contributions to the Owls’ survival this year, with the former already looking likely to return to Hillsborough after a report claimed Brighton were preparing to send him back on loan.

While Ugbo’s return looks unlikely due to finances, Wednesday could make it two from three if they can land Poveda on a free transfer.

The Colombian has just become a free agent after being released by Leeds United, while the Owls were one of the clubs already interested.

Sheffield Wednesday face more competition for Ian Poveda

Sunderland, Luton Town and Burnley have been linked with a move for Poveda, while a recent report claimed they have been joined by two other clubs.

Journalist Darren Witcoop wrote on X: “Ian Poveda is now a free agent after leaving Leeds and is not without interest. Sheffield Wednesday want the Colombian winger on a full-time basis after his loan spell, while Cardiff, Luton and West Brom are among the clubs keen.”

The former two joined the race for Poveda after he was released, with West Brom keen to strengthen their ranks in a bid to win promotion.

Will the Colombian go with his head or his heart?

Although Wednesday have a previous relationship with Poveda, it could be very difficult to compete with clubs who are likely to be right at the top of the Championship table next season.

Cardiff may be less of a concern for Danny Rohl’s side, but the likes of Luton, West Brom and Burnley will certainly be attractive prospects for Poveda.

Rohl’s new contract could tempt the ‘magic’ winger back to Hillsborough and his arrival could boost Wednesday’s ambitions for next season, but it will come down to whether he believes he can continue his impressive form at another club .

Poveda has really struggled in his career so far, so surely establishing himself at a club where he is valued and has already shone is the best option for him.
