Fabrizio Romano rubbishes reports of Leeds United star amid links with Liverpool move

Fabrizio Romano has provided a further update on the future of Leeds United starlet Crysencio Summerville, with both Liverpool and Chelsea said to be interested in the forward.

The 22-year-old is likely to leave Leeds this summer after a fine campaign in which he bagged 31 goals, winning the Championship Player of the Season award even after Leeds failed to gain promotion.

Plenty of clubs are linked with the diminutive striker. Liverpool and Chelsea are hot on his £35m-£40m fee, while Fulham, West Ham and Bournemouth are also interested in Summerville.

Newcastle have discussed a move internally, while Crystal Palace could go after the former Feyenoord ace if Michael Olise or Eberechi Eze are sold at Selhurst Park with big Premier League clubs interested.

Romano has now given an update on the race to sign Summerville, with Leeds having to sell him to bring in cash and comply with Financial Fairplay and Profit & Sustainability rules.

Fabrizio Romano provides a new update on Crysencio Summerville

Despite Liverpool being regularly linked with a move for Summerville, some recent reports have suggested that Arne Slot’s new side have cooled their interest in the Netherlands U21 star, despite Slot being an admirer.

Romano reiterated to Caught Offside that Liverpool and Chelsea are keen to have scouted the striker in recent months. He played down reports that the Reds are not interested in signing the Leeds United number 10.

“Liverpool and Chelsea have been tracking Crysencio Summerville for months. As far as negotiations are concerned, nothing has started yet. The talk that the Reds are no longer interested in the winger cannot be true,” he said.

“As it is still early for this transfer. The appreciation from both clubs is still there so we have to see if they decide to approach Leeds for Summerville at some point during the transfer window,” added Romano.

Which move is best for Summerville with an exit from Leeds inevitable

It’s more when than if with Summerville. He’s going to be on the road this summer, he’s got interest, he’s got quality, and the 49ers need to sell because it’s a massive windfall, big financial fairplay.

The chances of Summerville breaking into the teams of Liverpool or Chelsea are unlikely, however. The number of options in attack for both makes it unlikely that he will be a key player, which is why he thrives.

Newcastle have Harvey Barnes and Anthony Gordon on the left. But at West Ham, Fulham or Palace – if Eze and Olise leave – you’d imagine he’d have the quality to start week after week this summer.
