An 11-year-old girl is among four people injured after a ‘malfunction’ at a funfair ride in south London.

Lambeth Council said the “serious incident” happened at Lambeth Country Show in Brockwell Park at around 6.20pm on Saturday.

Police say a man and woman in their 40s and a man in his 50s were also injured.

“None of the four are believed to be in a life-threatening condition,” Lambeth Police posted on X.

“We are awaiting full assessments of the hospital.”

“thorough investigation”

A council spokesman said the area around the race was “safe” and confirmed the funfair had been closed.

“A thorough investigation is being carried out to determine the cause of the failure,” they added.

“Additional safety inspections are being carried out on all rides and attractions at the show.”

The London Ambulance Service said it sent “more resources to the scene, including four ambulance crews and members of our hazardous area response team”.

The London Air Ambulance was also dispatched.

“We treated four people at the scene and took them all to major trauma centres,” a spokesman said.

This weekend is the fiftieth anniversary of the event, which is said to be one of the biggest free family festivals in the UK.

Organizers say the aim is to celebrate the best of the city and countryside.
