Talks with Leicester City could be interrupted by the midfielder’s transfer request

Midfielder Wilfred Ndidi is apparently not short of options amid uncertainty over extending his stay at Leicester City.

The 27-year-old’s contract is set to run out at the end of this month. The club announced on Friday that they remain in discussions with the player regarding his future. However, Ndidi is clearly not without suitors for his signature.

According to TEAMtalk, Everton are eyeing the Nigerian as they look to use the free agent market to help them avoid another breach of the Profitability and Sustainability Rules. He is said to be “highly up” on the Toffees’ shortlist and is seen as a potential replacement for Amadou Onana, who has interest from Arsenal and other teams.

The report states that Everton director of football Kevin Thelwell is drawing up a bid for Ndidi following a “request” from boss Sean Dyche to sign him. Dyche is said to be a “huge admirer” of the midfielder.

Spanish sides Sevilla and Real Sociedad are also said to be keen on Ndidi. And it is said that other Premier League sides could try to lure him on a free transfer.

It comes as City are said to be weighing up their own midfield reinforcements. They are reportedly plotting a £15m move for Sean Longstaff from Newcastle United.
