Cornwall’s best garden center has been revealed as one that rises above the competition

Which garden center is the best? It’s a question that’s been troubling us here at CornwallLive for weeks, so much so that we’ve run a poll and invited our readers to cast their vote. Now the results are in – the votes have been tallied and tallied and we can officially say that one garden center is more popular than all the others.

Over 20,000 readers had their say in our online poll and – in reverse order – 133 of those voted for Par Garden Centre. Trelawney followed with 175, then Chacewater with 177, Pengelly with 444 and Bodmin with 526.

But from there the competition increases dramatically, with Warnes Plants & Garden Center receiving an impressive 1,701 votes, Trevena Cross Nurseries with 3,050 and Homeleigh Garden Center with 5,991. But all of these were beaten by the winner, Newquay Garden Centre, which received 8,876 votes – making it CornwallLive readers’ favorite plant emporium.

Newquay Garden Centre – 8,876 votes

Located on the Garden Way in Quintrell Downs, our survey winner is a short drive from Newquay. It has a cafe called The Potting Shed, a well-stocked farm shop and of course a wide range of plants and garden furniture.

Homeleigh Garden Centre – 5,991 votes

Homeleigh Garden Center in Launceston has over 40 departments and stocks pet, home and garden goods. If you visit, be sure to check out their aquatic center and Barbour clothing range.

Trevena Cross Nurseries – 3,050 votes

Located in Breage, Trevena Cross Nurseries is home to the Palm Tree Bistro and they not only stock a wide variety of plants and flowers but grow 90% of them on site.

Warnes Plants & Garden Center – 1,701 votes

Camborne’s Warne’s Plants came fourth in our survey and clearly have a loyal following with a 4.6 star rating on Google. Housing plants, hanging baskets and firewood, this garden center is not to be missed.

Bodmin Nursery – 526 votes

Open every day of the week, Bodmin Nursery has a cafe, shop and farmers market alongside its extensive range of plants and flowers.

Pengelly Garden Centre – 444 votes

Based in Hewas Water, between St Austell and Truro, Pengelly Garden Center has an impressive 4.7 star rating on Google from 309 reviews, but unfortunately only received 444 of the votes in our survey. Independent and family-owned, this ‘original and different’ garden center is definitely worth a visit.

Chacewater Garden Centre – 177 votes

Chacewater Garden Center has lots of plants and lots more including furniture, tools and grills.

Trelawney Garden Centre – 175 votes

This Blue Diamond garden center is just outside Wadebridge and was founded in 1970 as a small nursery growing fruit, vegetables and flowers.

Par Garden Center – 133 votes

Par Garden Center is a traditional plant specialist shop with a ‘fantastic’ cafe.
