Shinedown’s Brent Smith: ‘I’ve seen songs that cure cancer’

There is no cure for cancer, no matter what anyone tells you. Despite what the fake news articles on social media tell you, there is no secret cancer cure that is being suppressed by Big Pharma because they can’t make money off of it. And despite what the hippies tell you, a raw food vegan diet absolutely cannot cure cancer. But apparently Shinedown frontman Brent Smith says music can somehow cure cancer. I mean, it would be nice if it could, but it can’t.

Recently, Smith and Shinedown guitarist Zach Myers appeared at Rock Sugar Magic podcast, hosted by Kerri Kasem, and Kasem told the band members how Shinedown’s music helped her friend get through treatment for stage four cancer. Smith responded with some hyperbolic statements about the power of music. Here’s what he had to say, as transcribed by Blabbermouth:

“I have to tell you, though, that especially in recent years, I’ve noticed that music is a powerful thing. And especially when you talk about songs, but exactly what you said – I’ve seen songs cure cancer. It is quite strong. There’s just a different level within it. Because we are all connected to each other.”

Smith is exaggerating there. I don’t think he literally believes that music can cure cancer, but rather uses it to make a point about the healing power of music and all that kumbaya shit. At least, I hope he’s not naive enough to think that music can literally cure cancer. Because if I had cancer and had to choose between chemo and listening to Shinedown to cure it, I’m pretty sure I’d choose chemo. In fact, if I was given the choice between anything and listening to Shinedown, I probably wouldn’t choose to listen to Shinedown.
