Lambeth Country Show: Woman fighting for life in hospital after funfair ride ‘collapsed’

A 40-year-old woman is in hospital with life-threatening injuries after a funfair ride malfunctioned at a country show in Lambeth on Saturday, the Metropolitan Police said.

A woman injured at the Lambeth Country Show after a car malfunctioned is fighting for her life, police said.

A man in his 40s is also being treated for “life-threatening injuries”, the force said. Four people were injured during the funfair ride on Saturday, including a child.




Emergency services were called to Brockwell Park in south London after reports of people injured on the ride. Witnesses described feeling “scarred for life” after seeing what happened, the extent of which has not yet been clarified by authorities.

The Metropolitan Police said on Sunday that two of the four injured were seriously or seriously injured. A spokesman said: “Emergency services responded at around 6.20pm on Saturday 8 June to a failed fair race at Lambeth Country Show in Brockwell Park.

“Four people were transported to the hospital. A 40-year-old woman remains in hospital with life-threatening injuries following a full assessment by medics. A 40-year-old man is also receiving ongoing treatment for potentially life-changing injuries.

“The 50-year-old man and the 11-year-old girl have both been discharged from hospital. Officers attended the scene today alongside the Health and Safety Executive, while inquiries continue to establish the full circumstances.”

The Lambeth Country Show reopened on Sunday but the races remain isolated. A spokesman for Lambeth Council said on Saturday night that a health and safety investigation was now underway.
