The Slaithwaite Philharmonic Orchestra performs with St George’s Singers at Huddersfield Town Hall

The Slaithwaite Philharmonic Orchestra is playing a concert in Huddersfield Town Hall… and then rehearsing it in Manchester Cathedral.

The concert in Huddersfield on Saturday 15th June will be joined by the St George’s Singers who come from Manchester and are conducted by their director Neil Taylor.

He will conduct the Huddersfield concert, while Slaithwaite conductor Ben Ellin will take over the baton at the return concert in Manchester Cathedral the following week.

The concert will include Janacek’s Glagolitic Liturgy, a celebration of the Catholic liturgy in Old Church Slavonic. It is a vibrant and rhythmic piece that employs a large choir and soloists in addition to the orchestra.

The concert will begin with Poulenc’s Gloria, with solo soprano, orchestra and chorus, and is one of Poulenc’s most famous works. Filling in between the two is Scriabin’s massive orchestral piece, Poem of Ecstasy.

One of the soloists is Charlotte Kelso, Australian soprano and recent graduate of the Royal College of Music.

The concert at Huddersfield Town Hall on June 15 starts at 7.30pm. The concert at Manchester Cathedral on Saturday 22nd June also starts at 7.30pm.
