Liverpool register ‘concrete’ interest in Manchester United target Goncalo Inacio – Man United News And Transfer News

Liverpool vs Manchester United is probably the biggest rivalry in English football and it could be about to expand in this summer window.

Football Insider reports that the Merseyside outfit have made their interest in Goncalo Inacio “concrete”.

This spells trouble for United, who have long admired the Sporting Lisbon man and were reportedly ready to move for him in the summer.

Liverpool see Inacio as Virgil Van Dijk’s long-term replacement and are ready to pounce on what they believe is a ‘feasible’ £40m price tag.

For that price, many United fans would argue that the club should do their best to beat their biggest rivals to the punch.

United’s interest in bringing in a new centre-back this summer is an open secret and the name associated with the most consistency has been Jarrad Branthwaite.

Everton are likely to open talks at £75m for their prized asset, so in comparison, the deal for the equally left-handed Inacio is a no-brainer.

In fact, United letting Liverpool move for Inacio would also have other dominoes, none of which will please United much.

That’s because they retain an interest in Sporting players Morten Hjulmand and Ousmane Diomane.

The earlier Liverpool start making money by making their first sale, the more difficult it will become to do a deal for another player in the same summer.

United felt the effects of this when Ten Hag came on and the whole of Europe was watching Ajax’s players.

They ended up paying £85 million for Antony, a deal that could go down as one of the club’s worst transfers in history.

The competition for Inacio is heating up with other clubs apart from Liverpool and United interested, so the club would do well to come clean with their manager and start making their own moves.
