JLR father’s daughter fights back after being diagnosed with cancer

The father of a brave girl diagnosed with cancer has spoken about what a fighter she is. Maya Mason was just five years old when doctors discovered a large tumor in January 2023 after experiencing abdominal pain.

It was initially thought she had pulled a muscle in gymnastics, so it was devastating when her parents found out she had a 13cm tumor growing on her chest. Her father Jordan, who works for Jaguar Land Rover, says the heartbreaking news has left the family “totally shocked”.




He said: “It was like a nightmare we couldn’t wake up from, but we were determined to do everything we could to make sure she got the best treatment and stayed strong,” reports BirminghamLive.

Maya, now 6, began an intensive round of chemotherapy as part of a Cancer Research UK-funded clinical trial comparing different treatments for rhabdomyosarcoma, a soft tissue cancer. Jordan added: “Maya was an absolute champ. She missed six months of school, gymnastics and so much that she loves but never complains and stayed positive and bubbly throughout.”

The amazing girl is a fighter. He ran 5km just six months after his diagnosis.

When Maya, from Redditch, went to watch her family take part in the Redditch Race For Life in 2023, she left everyone in awe. Instead of cheering and cheering from the sidelines, she took off “like a rocket” and completed the 5K course alongside her cousin Marley.

Officials from Cancer Research UK were impressed with her 5km run and invited her back to ring the starting horn from the stage as a VIP at Arrow Valley Park on Sunday 9 June. the course again.
