Equans has awarded a new contract with Birmingham City Council

Energy, services and regeneration specialist Equans has extended its partnership with Birmingham City Council following the award of a new home repairs contract.

Under the new deal, Equans will continue to provide planned and responsive repair, maintenance and refurbishment services to more than 37,000 council-owned homes in the city until at least 2026.

In Birmingham last year, Equans completed over 150,000 responsive repairs, brought 1,700 empty properties back up to rental standard, carried out 40,000 gas repairs, installed over 1,000 new kitchens and bathrooms and completed extensive refurbishment works to thousands of homes.

Since its inception in 2016, the partnership has also resulted in thousands of homes across the city being warmer and more energy efficient, while generating significant levels of social value in the community and creating over 30 by new apprentices for the locals.

Paul Langford, Strategic Director for Urban Housing at Birmingham City Council, said: “We are delighted to have awarded this contract to Equans. Our partnership with Equans has already made significant improvements to our housing stock, making homes warmer and more energy efficient for our tenants. The new contract will allow us to continue this work, providing our tenants with a high quality repair and maintenance service that meets their needs.”

Paul Bingham, Regional Operations Director at Equans UK & Ireland, commented: “We are delighted that the council has chosen to enter into this new contract, giving us the opportunity to build on our existing successful partnership. Our aim during the contract period is to work with the council to make further improvements so that we can continue to provide a first class service to their housing residents.”
