Sir Dave Brailsford is pushing for a new Manchester United training ground

Sir Dave Brailsford has blasted Manchester United’s numbers amid his audit of the club’s infrastructure and believes the club must move out of the Carrington training complex.

Brailsford, the Ineos sporting director, joined the football board when Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s 27.7% stake was ratified at the end of February, but he has attended most of the games since the Boxing Day comeback win over Aston Villa .

Sources told the Manchester Evening News Brailsford offered detailed observations about the club, comparing United to his work with Team Sky and Ineos Grenadiers in cycling.

Brailsford offered “lots of geeky little details” but there is a feeling the tweaks will raise United’s standards to an elite level.

Brailsford made sneak visits to Carrington ahead of the Christmas Eve announcement that Ratcliffe would become part-owner of United.

Brailsford is understood to have concluded that Carrington is not fit for purpose as an elite sports base. MEN reported earlier this year that United were exploring the possibility of moving to a new training base in the near future.
