Coventry takeaway awarded hygiene star for ‘food safety’

A fast food restaurant in Coventry has been hit with a hygiene star by the Food Standards Agency (FSA). Chicken Delight in Stoke was found to have several problems during an inspection in April.

Officers found hygiene measures at Chicken Delight, on Heath Road, to be below par when they visited on Wednesday, April 24. Bosses have been told they need to make “major improvements”.

Inspectors visit hundreds of businesses each year, scoring them on hygiene, food safety management and food handling. Other factors considered are cleanliness, pest control and whether systems are in place to ensure good food hygiene.

Officials found the city-based business needed to make “major improvements to its food safety management”. Concerns have been raised about employees’ knowledge of food safety and the systems and controls in place to ensure food sold or served is safe to eat, Coventry City Council said.

Cleanliness was also found to be below par with improvements said to be “necessary”. It also said problems were found with the “condition of the facilities and the building”.

Chicken Delight has been contacted for comment by CoventryLive.
