Sheffield Wednesday now face competition from the Champions League club for the 15-goal target

Sheffield Wednesday could now face stiff competition to sign one of their attacking targets.

Sheffield Wednesday’s chances of re-signing Ike Ugbo look unlikely due to his potential price tag, encouraging the club to look elsewhere for a new striker.

Mallik Wilks will certainly be on the way this summer after scoring just three goals in 42 appearances, leaving Michael Smith and Bailey Cadamarteri as the only remaining options up front.

As a result, Wednesday have begun their search for a new No.9 and have already been linked with former target Mika Biereth.

The Owls expressed an interest in the Arsenal youngster in January, but he ended up joining Sturm Graz instead.

After registering 15 goals and nine assists in 37 appearances last term, Biereth has now attracted interest from several clubs.

Sturm Graz are eager to bring the 21-year-old back to Austria as they hope to be successful in their second attempt to sign him on Wednesday.

However, they now face competition from another Champions League club in their pursuit.

Club Brugge are now targeting Mika Biereth

Journalist Sacha Tavolieri wrote on X: “Blauw&Zwart takes Mika Biereth’s situation into account. #ArsenalFC’s Denmark U21 international forward has been linked with Sturm Graz several times in recent months. NOT an offer yet. To replace Igor Thiago, Club Brugge will sign a striker this summer.”

Both Sturm Graz and Club Brugge finished first in their respective leagues and could offer football in the Biereth Champions League next season.

If he is able to play regularly at either of these clubs, then it would not be surprising if Arsenal would prefer a move that would see the striker play at the highest level of European football.

Joining Sheffield Wednesday could see him help the club reach the play-offs, but a move to the Championship would certainly only be tempting if he wanted more experience in English football.

Danny Rohl will certainly play a key role in Wednesday’s signing of any quality players this summer, but it would have to be extremely convincing to see the club beat Sturm Graz and Club Brugge to his signature.
