Queue chaos at Birmingham airport live as drenched travelers warn ‘worst we’ve ever seen’

Frustrated passengers at Birmingham Airport once again faced long waits to get into the terminal this morning, June 10 – with images shared of customers left outside in the rain. In a repeat of scenes from the past month, large numbers of tourists, some optimistically dressed in sun hats and shorts, queued for a reported time of around 2.5 hours early this morning to get right to the gates Safety.

Simon Lee joined the BHX queue at 6.40am today and said the airport should be “ashamed”. Nigel Thompson took to X, formerly of Twitter, to share a photo of the long queues outside, saying it was the “worst” he had ever seen.

Some said they showed up three hours before flights to prepare for long waits, but still ended up stranded in the chaos. This morning, hundreds of people were waiting to enter the terminal, with footage showing snaking queues leading to the entrance and through security.

A tweet shared by @wesandpete on Twitter on June 9 showed long lines to get into the airport at 5:18 a.m. on Sunday. The duo said it was “awful” and their comment reached more than 9 million people. As the airport rolls out its “state-of-the-art” security hall upgrade, customers are experiencing fluid changes and waiting as the finishing touches are made to the checkpoint area.

Until then, there had been consistent reports from anxious travelers of long queues at certain times, particularly over half-term, when there was much passenger frustration. BirminghamLive has contacted Birmingham Airport for a statement on this morning’s queues.

I am leaving Birmingham Airport – what should I do?

Birmingham Airport said that if you are catching a flight, you must arrive at the airport in accordance with the airline’s check-in time, which is normally two to three hours before the departure flight. Travelers told us this morning that there have been wait times of over two hours for departures and there is a limit to the number of Express Lane passes available for purchase each day, which seems to add to the confusion each morning. Anxious travelers are likely to show up more than three hours before their flight, which adds to the large number of people you see in line.

What does the queue look like this morning?

This was the queue after 6am. Passengers catching early morning flights seem to be the most affected, with the queue appearing to die down towards the afternoon, then pick up again later in the day.

What are customers saying in line this morning?

A number of customers have taken to social media and shared their experiences with us at BirminghamLive of the waiting times they are experiencing to get to departures this morning, 10 June.

Simon Lee joined the BHX queue at 6.40am this morning and said the airport should be “ashamed”. Simon’s picture below shows holidaymakers prepared for a long wait in the wet weather. Some hold umbrellas and others sit under a canopy provided by BHX.

@BiancaP505 wrote at 7:37: “Birmingham airport, what a shame. Queuing for hours in the pouring rain to get to security.”

I asked airport bosses for a statement this morning on what is being done to deal with the huge queues that form every early morning.
