Cabin crew tell you why they greet you on planes – it’s not out of politeness

The cabin crew is always standing at the door of the plane to greet us when we arrive.

It’s a great way to start flying off on the right foot. We all love to be greeted by their smiling faces – and it’s nice to be directed to our seats too.

But it seems the flight attendants aren’t just being friendly by saying “hello.” According to an industry insider, their role goes far beyond pleasure.

You may not realize it – but the cabin crew have been evaluating you from the moment you set foot in the cabin. As flight attendant and TikTok user @MrsMiva points out, this can be essential for passenger safety.

She shared, “Did you know that your flight attendant not only greets you out of courtesy, but also to check if you’re too drunk or sick to fly?”

The reveal garnered more than a million likes and left many stunned. One commented: “Wait, is there a reason they always ask me where I’m staying when I board.”

Another said: “To see if 1. you are safe to fly (not drunk) and to see if you could help in an emergency.” A third wrote: “And looking for suspicious behaviour.”

And a fourth added: “We also pick good candidates in case of an emergency.” Several people have shared their personal experiences to support the theory.
