Leeds United could turn to Italy for a transfer solution as the option for Daniel Farke comes up

The transfer window opens with much fanfare this week as clubs prepare to announce long-gestating and long-agreed deals. Expect an early flurry of announcements as early deals are confirmed and the market comes to life as the domino effect sets in with money being moved between clubs and opportunities emerge.

For Leeds United, the opening of the transfer window is more likely to bring with it bids for their key players than new arrivals at Elland Road, at least for the first few weeks. But that doesn’t mean the Whites aren’t looking to add to Daniel Farke’s squad for next season.

One of those additions could be an unknown quantity from Italy, with the media in that country linking Leeds with an interest in Reggiana midfielder Natan Girma. Both Leeds and Watford have been credited with an interest in the attacking midfielder, who proved a huge success in Serie B last season.

The 22-year-old has three years to run on his contract at Reggiana, as well as an option for a further year, with the Italian second-tier club unwilling to move the player on. However, a fee of around £3.5m may be enough to convince the club to do a deal.

According to Il Resto Del Carlino, there are three clubs showing a real interest in Girma, with Leeds and Watford alongside Serie A side AS Monza. Little is known about Girma due to these injuries, but the Swiss-born man was a huge success in Italy with six goals and three assists in 29 appearances last season.
