General Election 2024: Full list of Stratford-on-Avon candidates as Nadhim Zahawi steps down

Stratford-on-Avon is set to get a new MP at the next general election, regardless of the result, when Nadhim Zahawi stands down. The former Chancellor of the Exchequer, who has represented the constituency since 2010, said “the time is right” for someone else to take on the role.

Chris Clarkson will stand for the Conservatives on July 4. You can see a full list of candidates below.

Stratford is a safe seat for the Tories, although it was briefly Labor under former MP Alan Howarth, who was elected as a Tory but defected to Labor in 1995.

The Conservatives regained the seat under John Maples in 1997, and he represented Stratford until he resigned in 2010, when Nadhim Zahawi became an MP.

Mr Zahawi won the 2010 election with 51.5% of the vote, which rose to over 60% in the last two general elections.

The Stratford-on-Avon constituency covers not only the town itself but the surrounding villages and countryside as far north as Earlswood and Wood End, Alcester and Bidford-on-Avon in the west, including Shipston-on-Stour and both as far south as Whichford and Long Compton.
