All set for Independent Bookstore Week

Newquay bookstore Clemo Books is gearing up to celebrate its first Independent Bookstore Week (June 15-22).

The store, which opened last November, is planning a number of activities including an author visit, a late-night shopping event and a youth poetry competition.

Owner Jaimie Poyner said: “Our first High Street Independent Bookstore Week feels like a sentimental milestone. We are so excited to be part of the national campaign supporting the importance of high street bookshops, highlighting the vitality and cultural opportunities they can bring to cities and their communities.

“Numbers are growing and we hope people get involved with Clemo Books during our first Independent Bookshop Week!”

Amongst the festivities, bookworms can meet Tracey Williams, author of the much-acclaimed Adrift: The Curious Tale of The Lego Lost at Sea, who will be signing copies of her book and trying to sell books for it on Saturday (June 15), 10:30 am. until 12:30 p.m.

Children and young people will also be able to join in the celebrations and take part in the Clemo Books Youth Poetry Competition.

Local writer and poet Lucy Beckley and author Tracey Williams will judge the competition alongside bookseller Jaimie Poyner. The competition is open for entries now and closes at noon on Saturday, June 22, the last day of Independent Bookstore Week. Information about the competition can be found on the Clemo Books website.
