Championship veteran linked to Sheffield United

Sheffield United and Ipswich Town are reportedly interested in signing Rangers winger Tom Lawrence.

According to the Scottish Daily Mail, the 30-year-old is also attracting interest from Turkish club Besiktas.

Lawrence made 32 appearances for Rangers last season in all competitions. The versatile winger scored three times and assisted three during the 2023/24 campaign.

At one point, while Lawrence was at Derby County, it looked like he would be linked with Sheffield United in every transfer window.

This isn’t the first wing Blades has been linked with this window. Liam Millar, who was on loan at Preston North End last season, has previously been linked with a permanent move to Bramall Lane.

Over the past few years, United have often opted not to sign any wingers, which has sometimes backfired as they have had no plan B to go to during matches.

There were times last season when Chris Wilder opted for a 4-3-3 formation and had to field Cameron Archer on the left in some of the earlier games in his second term.

Wilder, who has been criticized for not having a backup plan in the past, showed in his second spell that he can play more than his tried and tested 5-3-2 formation. Perhaps the Blades will start the next campaign with a new system.
