Report: Brenden Aaronson to stay at Leeds United for 2024-25 season

Once Brenden Aaronson’s international schedule is over this summer, he looks set to return to Elland Road for the 2024-25 EFL Championship season.

Aaronson is set to join parent club Leeds United amid interest in his services elsewhere, the Yorkshire Evening Post reported on Monday. The 23-year-old spent the recent season on loan at Bundesliga side Union Berlin, helping them avoid relegation to the German second tier.

According to the report, Aaronson has held positive talks with Leeds manager Daniel Farke.

Aaronson originally joined Leeds United in May 2022 in a £25 million move from RB Salzburg, but struggled during the 2022–23 campaign. Despite a fast start under Jesse Marsch, Aaronson eventually watched the Lilywhites get relegated from the English Premier League.

He registered one goal and three assists in a combined 40 appearances at Elland Road before his recent loan spell in Germany.

Union Berlin held a purchase option to acquire Aaronson this summer but will not activate it.

Aaronson is currently with the US men’s national team ahead of Copa America 2024. He did not feature in Saturday’s 5-1 friendly loss to Colombia, but remains an option to play in Wednesday’s match against Brazil.

Leeds United lost 1-0 to Southampton in the EFL Championship promotion final last May despite finishing third in the league table.
