Coventry bomb threat shuts down school

A secondary school in Coventry had to be evacuated following a ‘bomb threat’. Pupils faced disruption at Meadow Park School in Whitley.

Students were told to go home at around 8.30 this morning (Monday, June 10). Police rushed to the scene on Abbey Road following a bomb scare, which was sent by email, according to West Midlands Police.

Field searches were conducted throughout the morning (June 10). Nothing suspicious was found, West Midlands Police said.

Year 11 students were told they would not be able to sit their GCSE exams on site and were instead transferred to Finham Park School. Meadow Park School will reopen as normal tomorrow (Tuesday 11 June).

Parents said the unexplained closure left them feeling “worried”. A worried mother told CoventryLive she was not told the reason for the evacuation and was not given an update on what had happened.

A West Midlands Police spokesman said: “We were called after a bomb threat was received by Meadow Park School via email. A search was conducted and nothing suspicious was found.”

In a statement, Meadow Park School said: “Following a threat received before the start of the school day, we have informed the police and contacted parents to say we have to close the school, the safety of our students is our number one priority and established . an emergency plan was activated to minimize disruption to students and the wider school community. We expect the school to reopen as normal tomorrow (June 11).”
