Report: Brenden Aaronson to return to Leeds

Brenden Aaronson could return to his parent club. Tom Bogert of The Athletic reports that following his loan spell at Union Berlin last season, the USMNT midfielder will remain at Leeds United for the upcoming 2024-25 season.

The decision to stay at Leeds comes after a “positive conversation” with manager Daniel Farke, with Aaronson keen to stay and carve out a role for himself in the team. Leeds finished 3rd in the EFL Championship last season, narrowly missing out on automatic promotion. They eventually lost in the EFL Championship play-off final to Southampton and will remain in the 2nd division next season.

Aaronson spent the 2023–24 season on loan with Bundesliga side Union Berlin, where he made 30 appearances for the club in all competitions. He had 2 goals and 2 assists this season in a situation that saw him benched for much of the season before finally getting some consistent playing time. Union Berlin narrowly avoided relegation, with Aaronson providing an assist in the last game to help Berlin avoid the relegation playoffs.

Returning to Leeds, he hopes to be one of the guys who can help bring them back to the top flight. He probably had the option of returning to Germany, either on loan or on a permanent deal. Instead, he will stay at Elland Road and play in the Championship next season.
