M5 lane closure causes traffic jams near Bristol

A fuel spill following a collision between a car and a van has caused major delays on the M5 near Bristol this afternoon, Monday 10 June. There were severe delays in the northbound carriageway as well as congestion on the southbound carriageway as people slowed down to look at the accident. .

According to traffic monitoring website Inrix, the accident happened near junction 20 for Clevedon. It was first reported at 12:00 p.m. The incident cleared and traffic began to ease by 4:00 p.m.

Inrix reported: “Traffic backed up and one lane closed due to an accident on the M5 northbound near J20 B3133 Ettlingen Way (Clevedon).”
