Manchester United have reportedly decided against appointing Gareth Southgate as their new manager.

According to The Mirror, Southgate could be keen to get his act together in club football again.

However, United are said to have opted against naming Southgate as their new boss because the timelines don’t line up.

The FA are reportedly set to hand Southgate a new contract, with his current deal set to expire in December.

United have been linked with a number of other managers amid suggestions they could sack Erik ten Hag.

Southgate has been widely praised for his work as England manager, which has included reaching the Euro 2020 final.

However, there is now an increasing focus on whether he will be able to guide the Three Lions to glory this summer.

The FA are also yet to identify a potential successor to Southgate.

Southgate has been England manager since 2016. He was previously in charge of the England Under-21 team after starting his managerial career with Middlesbrough.

United have reportedly held talks with Thomas Tuchel, but it is understood the former Bayern Munich boss is no longer under consideration.

Mauricio Pochettino, Thomas Frank and Roberto De Zerbi have also been linked with the position.
