Woman raped on Huddersfield street as manhunt begins for attacker

A woman was raped in Huddersfield in the early hours of this morning.

West Yorkshire Police have launched an investigation into the attack on Great Northern Street, which took place between midnight and 12.30am today, Tuesday 4 June.

Officers say “extensive inquiries” are underway and the victim is being supported by specially trained officers. A police scene remains in place as part of the investigation. The rapist is currently at large and the police are working hard to find him.

In a brief statement issued this afternoon, a spokesman for the force said: “Police are investigating a serious sexual assault on a woman in Huddersfield in the early hours of this morning (Tuesday, June 4).

“The offense is reported to have taken place between 12pm and 12.30pm on Great Northern Street, Huddersfield.

“The investigation is at an early stage, with extensive inquiries underway to establish the circumstances surrounding this incident and to identify the suspect involved. The victim is currently being supported by specially trained officers.”
