Watch the first trailer for Netflix’s Prince Andrew movie Scoop

Netflix has released the teaser trailer for Scoop, which tells the story of Prince Andrew’s infamous Newsnight interview.

Based on the memoirs of former Newsnight producer Sam McAlister, Scoop traces McAlister’s negotiations with Buckingham Palace to Emily Maitlis’ interview with the Duke of York in November 2019.

The trailer, which you can watch above, doesn’t contain much of the interview itself, but it ends with Emily Maitlis and Prince Andrew sitting down to begin as she says, “Your Royal Highness…”

Now we also know that Scoop will be released on Netflix on Friday, April 5.

Scoop stars Gillian Anderson as Emily Maitlis, Billie Piper as Newsnight producer Sam McAlister, Rufus Sewell as Prince Andrew, Romola Garai as Newsnight editor Esme Wren and Keeley Hawes as Prince Andrew’s former private secretary Amanda Thirsk .

Rounding out the cast are Connor Swindells as photographer Jae Donnelly (who snapped a photo of Prince Andrew walking in Central Park with Jeffrey Epstein), Charity Wakefield as Princess Beatrice and Lia Williams as Fran Unsworth, the former news director of BBC.

Peter Moffat and Geoff Bussetil adapted McAlister’s memoir for the screen, with Scoop directed by Philip Martin.

“I want to put the audience in the mind-boggling sequence of events leading up to the interview with Prince Andrew – to tell a story about a search for answers, in a world of speculation and varied memories,” Martin previously told TUDUM.

Scoop joins an impressive line-up of Netflix originals in 2024, which also includes Jennifer Lopez’s sci-fi film Atlas, Taron Egerton’s new thriller Carry On and the much-anticipated return of Cameron Diaz’s comedy Back in Action.

The film isn’t the only time we’ll see a dramatization of Prince Andrew’s infamous Newsnight interview.

There’s also A Very Royal Scandal, which sees Michael Sheen take on the role of Prince Andrew, with Ruth Wilson playing Emily Maitlis.

Scoop launches on Netflix on April 5.
