London’s World Naked Bike Ride 2024 in pictures

There are pretty unusual things happening in London all the time, but the swarms of cyclists wearing nothing but their birthday suits will take almost all of us by surprise – unless you knew full well that Empty bike ride in the world was taking place on Saturday (June 8).

There were routes in Clapham, Croydon, Hackney Wick, Kew Bridge, Regents Park, Tower Hill, Wellington Arch and an accessible option near St John’s Church Gardens on the South Bank, and a record number of cyclists – around 1,200 – took part this year , which was the 20th anniversary of the event.

But there’s more to it than baring it all loud and proud (although that’s obviously pretty key). Since it began in 2004, WNBR has acted as a peaceful protest against global oil dependence, to reduce car culture and promote cyclists’ rights, to demonstrate the vulnerability of cyclists and, of course, to celebrate the freedom of the body. Here are some snapshots of the event in all its frontal glory.

You saw that London’s first new public lido in decades has just been approved?
