3 Birmingham City players to watch out for using Chris Davies links

Birmingham City have appointed Chris Davies as their new manager, giving him his first chance at a senior boss after numerous other coaching roles.

Birmingham City appointed Davies as their new boss after relegation from the Championship.

It was a period to forget for the Blues, with managerial decisions leading to relegation to League One, a far from ideal scenario for the new ownership. However, with Davies in place, the focus now turns to winning immediate promotion back to the second tier.

The 39-year-old’s links with top clubs such as Tottenham Hotspur, Leicester City and Celtic, alongside relationships with bosses such as Ange Postecoglou and Brendan Rodgers should be of great use to the Blues as they build a squad capable of winning promotion.

That said, here are three players Birmingham City should be looking at who would see new boss Davies’ links put into action…

Wanya Marcal – Leicester City

Portuguese winger Marcal has impressed in pre-season 2023 and earned some action with the Foxes’ first team in the early stages of the campaign. However, opportunities have dwindled for the exciting winger and following promotion to the Premier League, the Leicester City man could benefit from a loan move.

Marcal, 21, can play on either the left or the right and has also played centrally as an attacking midfielder.

Given the inconsistency and lack of confidence of some of Birmingham City’s forwards in the 2023/24 campaign, a move for the lively Marcal could be a smart one to make.

Jamie Donley – Tottenham Hotspur

Having joined from Spurs, it would be a surprise if Davies didn’t use the link.

As for the youngsters from the north London club, Birmingham City could be spoiled for choice. However, of the U21 stars, Donley looks primed and ready for a chance at regular senior football when the new campaign rolls around.

Operating as both an attacking midfielder and a striker, the 19-year-old scored a fantastic eight goals and 17 assists in 23 games for young Spurs. He could take League One by storm, but such success in academy football could mean Donley goes straight to the Championship.

Who is this?

THE QUIZ STARTS!

Stephen Welsh – Celtic

Last but not least, Celtic could be a good club for Birmingham City. Davies was the long-term no. 2 of current boss Brendan Rodgers and to bolster the defence, Stephen Welsh is one to consider.

The 24-year-old spent time injured last season and had a few chances in the starting XI, but in a bid to really get going away from the club, a move to the Blues could be ideal.

Welsh is a strong centre-back who plays with physicality and determination. At his age, the time has come to play week in week out and under Davies, he could become a key player at St. Andrew’s.
