Sheffield Wednesday should consider a move for Cody Drameh from Leeds United

Sheffield Wednesday already hold an interest in one leaving Leeds United, with Ian Poveda wanted back following his loan from the Owls.

Sheffield Wednesday brought Poveda on loan in January and, as looked likely upon his move to Hillsborough, Leeds United will offload the exciting forward this summer.

Poveda’s deal with the Whites expires at the end of the month and with no new contract on offer, the Owls are among those keen to land the former Manchester City prospect.

Other additions will be on Danny Rohl’s radar, though, and with some eye-catching players moving from their Yorkshire rivals, Poveda shouldn’t be the only one with an eye. The situation of defender Cody Drameh should also interest Sheffield Wednesday.

Moving?

In their retained list, Leeds United confirmed that Drameh had in fact been offered a new deal, which came as a surprise to some given his place in the pecking order at Elland Road.

However, as the Yorkshire Evening Post said, the motivations behind the move are financial. It entitles the Whites to some compensation given that Drameh is under 24 years old.

Drameh is still expected to leave the Whites this summer and should have no shortage of admirers.

The 22-year-old is a bombing presence up and down the right, impressing as both a full-back and full-back. He previously featured in spells at Cardiff City and Luton Town and made a decent impression at Birmingham City despite limited starts towards the end of the season.

Drameh is widely tipped to start and his situation should be of interest to Sheffield Wednesday.

Another option is needed

Rohl has seen 2023 signing Pol Valentin play an increasingly important role on the right side as the campaign has progressed, so the Owls may be wary of stunting their momentum by bringing in another player in that position.

However, depth is needed, and a move for Drameh would provide just that.

Who is this?

THE QUIZ STARTS!

Having the two compete for a starting spot in Rohl’s Sheffield Wednesday team could help get the best out of both. But if Rohl wanted to try to work the duo on the same line, Drameh also operated on the left at times, even though the right is his strongest side.

It might give the Owls boss a bit of a headache, but a move for the out-of-contract Leeds United star should not be sniffed at. Drameh is a great option for the present and the future, and if he’s not of interest to Sheffield Wednesday, there will be another Championship side ready to swoop in and land him in an impressive deal.
