The new scheme has been launched in Coventry to support local communities

A new charity scheme ‘The Final Course’ has been launched to support local communities in Coventry and Warwickshire.

The scheme was launched on World Hunger Day (May 28) and allows delegates from conferences, dinners and events around the city to make a donation to help someone less fortunate as part of their dining experience.

The voluntary and discreet scheme will have a QR code displayed around the venue which will go to a donation page where people can find out more and make a donation.

In partnership with Feed The Hungry, a Coventry foodbank with connections to Warwickshire, Coventry and Warwickshire LVEP aims to support those in need.

Funds raised through the program will be donated quarterly to Feed The Hungry, ensuring ongoing support for local communities.

Claire England, Senior Destination Manager for Destination Coventry, said: “It is essential that events hosted in the region leave a lasting positive legacy on local communities.

“The ultimate course is a simple and discreet way to give delegates to our communities. It brings significant benefits to both venues and event organisers, and by running the initiative through Conference Coventry and Warwickshire, it is low maintenance and quick to get started.

“We have an incredibly successful business events sector in Coventry and Warwickshire. If just 2,000 delegates made a small donation of £2.50 it would give a £5,000 boost to local food banks.”

It has been trialled at Ashorne Hill, a learning and development centre, and the Coventry Building Society Arena, the region’s largest conference and exhibition centre, is the first venue to commit to The Final Course.

Hugh McNeill, who leads the Pathfinder project for Feed The Hungry, said: “It’s a unique idea, it’s the first time we’ve heard of a whole region offering a scheme like this in England and we’re delighted to support it.

“Quite often, giving someone food doesn’t solve the problems they’re facing. It’s about building a sustainable program of support that ends up ensuring in the long term that they can overcome their challenges.”

In 2023, Feed The Hungry generated £750,000 through various schemes to support people in need.
