Sheffield Forgemasters makes land purchases

The acquisitions total 21 acres of brownfield land on three parcels adjacent to the company’s Brightside Lane site, with the aim of developing additional facilities as its recapitalization program prepares.

The company is already in the process of building a new 13,000 tonne Heavy Forge factory and has earmarked the largest site, located on Weedon Street, for the creation of a new machining line to support its production for the UK defense program .

Gareth Barker, Chief Operating Officer at Sheffield Forgemasters, said: “The acquisition of these plots of land is a game-changing deal for the company and will see state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities built in the historic heart of Sheffield’s industrial heartland. .

“Our recapitalization program completely transforms the company’s facilities as our modeling reshapes the site for optimal use.

“The opportunity to purchase more land immediately adjacent to our site will allow for a faster and more cost-effective recapitalization than trying to reconfigure existing facilities, with the added benefit of keeping production in full flow through the existing plant.”

The company also recently completed the purchase of 10,000 sq ft of office space at Riverside Court on Brightside Lane.

Gareth added: “The main aim of the land acquisition is to enable the development of a new processing facility, which will house 17 highly advanced processing centres, which do not exist anywhere else in the UK.”

The company will now begin work on detailed planning to be submitted to planning authorities.
