Dejphon Chansiri will regret not completing deal for £500,000 Sheffield Wednesday ace

Sheffield Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri may regret not completing a deal for this summer transfer target.

Sheffield Wednesday have made a positive start to the post-season and controversial owner Dejphon Chansiri could receive some rare plaudits.

He was quick to secure his future under manager Danny Rohl, who has now signed a three-year deal after previous links with the likes of Hull City and Sunderland.

Elsewhere, the Owls have linked Barry Bannan and Liam Palmer and are also expected to secure the future of Josh Windass.

The transfer window officially opens for business on June 14, and Sheffield Wednesday look well placed to pull off some impressive transfer deals.

But being well placed, and actually Completing those deals are two different things, and Sheffield Wednesday must ensure they rush to land their summer targets.

A name linked with several others is Yan Valery; it has been reported that Sheffield Wednesday have agreed to sign Valery from Angers, but the Owls now face competition.

Montpellier have opened talks with Valery, while Standard Liege have submitted a loan offer to buy, with a permanent option of around £500,000.

Sheffield Wednesday and Dejphon Chansiri must agree a transfer deal with Yan Valery

Valery, 25, is a right-back who mainly played in a back-four with Angers last season, whom he helped promote to Ligue 1.

Bringing him in would strengthen a fairly thin right-back department and give Rohl more freedom in terms of form, with Pol Valentin perhaps better suited at right-back.

It’s an interesting potential signing and one that has attracted a lot of attention from Sheffield Wednesday fans on social media.

But his signing wouldn’t just mean a strong addition to the side; it would also indicate the intent of the Owls and Chansiri for this upcoming summer transfer window.

If Sheffield Wednesday can fend off strong interest in Valery, then it would show Rohl, and indeed everyone else, that Chansiri finally means business at Sheffield Wednesday.

He has spent money in the past, but poorly. The Owls have since paid for it for years Not spending and poor league finishes.

But with Rohl at the helm, it’s a sure chance to rebuild. Chansiri has already tempted Rohl to sign a new contract, but Rohl would certainly have staked his hopes on the club in this summer’s transfer window.

Valery is clearly someone the Owls have done their homework on and they certainly knew signing him wouldn’t be easy, which is proving to be the case so far.

But Chansiri can put any fears to bed by putting a few on the table for Valery; enough to keep the likes of Liege and Montpellier at bay as much as they might.

This figure of £500,000 seems like a base figure and could be very smart business and a fee that allows Rohl and Chansiri to spend on other players as well this summer.

If Sheffield Wednesday win the race for Valery, it will be a huge statement of intent.
