ALEX HUNT has returned to York City permanently.

Fan favorite Hunt joins York on a permanent deal with Grimsby Town, signing from the Mariners for an undisclosed fee.

Hunt was also unveiled in York’s new home strip for the 2024/25 season, which was designed by Hummel.

The 24-year-old was highly regarded at City during his short loan spell with the Minstermen at the end of the 2023/24 season, making nine appearances.

Hunt played a vital role as he played nine times under manager Adam Hinshelwood, despite making his debut in a disappointing 2-0 defeat to Barnet, which could cost former boss Neal Ardley his job.

A difficult debut for the midfielder would see him fail to get a minute off the bench in the defeat to Barnet, before breaking into the starting eleven again in the 6-1 loss to Altrincham.

Hunt also registered a brace during his loan spell, curling an inch-perfect cross to Dipo Akinyemi, who finished comfortably in City’s crucial 1-1 draw against FC Halifax Town.

Now permanently back in North Yorkshire, Hunt departs Grimsby having played 62 times for the Mariners, featuring in both the Vanarama National League and Sky Bet League Two.

Hunt also has previous experience with boyhood clubs Sheffield Wednesday, for whom he made nine senior appearances, and Oldham Athletic, on loan in 2022.

He becomes the sixth addition of the Summer, following Ollie Pearce, Harrison Male, Joe Felix, Ashley Nathaniel-George and Tyrese Sinclair at York.
