Liverpool already know Matthijs de Ligt’s transfer position as Bayern Munich theory emerges

Bayern Munich star Matthijs de Ligt has already made his feelings known about a potential summer move as Liverpool watch.

Reports emerged on Tuesday that De Ligt could be in line for a surprise move away from the Bundesliga giants. Sky Germany reported that the Bundesliga club could let the centre-back leave on a permanent deal this summer.

Bayern are said to want to sign new defenders with Chesea’s Jonathan Tah and Levi Colwill – both playing for German champions Bayer Leverkusen – believed to be targets. As a result, De Ligt has been listed as the player who could be sold to fund Bayern’s new signings this summer.

Liverpool have not been directly linked with a move for De Ligt this summer, although there are rumors that the Reds could be in the market for a new centre-back following the departure of Joel Matip. De Ligt was tentatively linked with Liverpool in 2019 during his time at Ajax before opting to join Juventus in 2019 before securing a £68m three-year move to Munich later.

Rumors began to emerge before the end of last season, suggesting De Ligt could be in line for a move away from Germany this summer. Manchester United were credited with an interest at the time, but speculation over the defender’s future was largely quiet until this week’s new update.

When the initial rumors emerged in March, De Ligt emphasized his intention to continue to perform for Bayern. The 24-year-old also explained why he wasn’t thinking about his long-term future at the time.
