Burnt Oak to get CPZ following concerns raised by residents

Barnet Council is inviting residents to comment on a Controlled Parking Zone (CPZ) in Burnt Oak.

The experimental CPZ, which went live in April, is part of the council’s response to “concerns raised by residents about parking in the Burnt Oak area” and an attempt to “improve road safety”. Residents have until November 9 to respond to the consultation.

The CPZ was established following feedback from an initial informal engagement with estate residents in the area in May/June 2023.

Of the approximately 900 properties where residents were contacted, 99 responses were received, equating to a response rate of 11%.

The results showed that 87% of respondents said “they or their family or visitors always or often have parking problems near their property”.

Causes included “commuter parking, multiple car or commercial van/truck households”.

Overall, 68% of respondents indicated that they were in favor of implementing a CPZ, with 64% preferring an all-day operating schedule.

The response for days of operation was fairly evenly split, with 32% preferring Monday to Friday, while 33% preferring seven days a week.

The Burnt Oak Central experimental CPZ will operate Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

The council says phone payments and carpools will be implemented in appropriate locations to serve the community and support local businesses.

The CPZ comprises 13 roads, including Blundell Road.

The scheme will last “up to 18 months”, with consultation taking place in the first six months.

When the scheme is complete, officers will decide whether to implement it permanently.
