South Norwood pupils win athletics championship at confidence level

Pupils and staff at South Norwood Primary School in Croydon, part of The Pioneer Academy Trust, are delighted to have won the trust’s athletics championship.

South Norwood were the overall winners at the athletics tournament held at Norman Park athletics track in Bromley on Thursday, June 6, which featured seven track events and three field events.

South Norwood’s athletics team were selected following a full day of school sport at the Croydon Arena on May 23.

200 pupils from 15 schools from the specialist primary trust took part and Pioneer Academy has a strong focus on increasing sporting opportunities for all pupils.

This year’s athletics championship also included a competitive physical education teacher race!

Melody Berthoud, head teacher at South Norwood Primary School, said:

“We are so proud of all our amazing Year 6 athletes and Coach Mickey for his amazing support.

“Coach Mickey followed the PE PRO scheme to teach all the kids different athletic skills during the summer term.

“Many of the children selected also play in the South Norwood netball, basketball and football teams.

“We are very proud of all our students for all the effort they put in.”
