Cardiff City news tonight as Cody Drameh’s Leeds United plan revealed and legend links up with old boss in new role

Here are the Cardiff City headlines for Tuesday 11 June.

Leeds’ Drameh plan revealed

Leeds United have offered Cody Drameh a new contract so that even if he does not accept it, he will be entitled to compensation.

That’s according to the BBC’s Don’t Go To Bed Just Yet podcast, published after the Elland Road club confirmed that Drameh, who is out of contract this summer, had been offered a new deal when they released their retained list .

Drameh is a fan favorite at Cardiff after winning the club’s player of the year award in 2022. The 22-year-old right-back was then loaned from Leeds to Luton Town and won promotion to the Premier League, before being sent on loan. against Birmingham City last season.

It hasn’t gone to plan for the defender and he is now at a crossroads at Leeds. But according to the BBC, the club have offered him a new deal so he can still cash in if he finds a new team this summer.

BBC reporter Adam Pope said on the podcast: “Cody Drameh is being offered a new contract. Now I think the point here is if you’re under 24 then it’s a case of offering a contract, if they turn it down then Leeds are entitled to compensation if they go elsewhere.

“I think it’s a sensible business move. I don’t see it being part of the plans.”

Co-host Simon Rix, from Kaiser Chiefs, said: “He doesn’t have to sign either. It just has to be offered for them to receive the compensation. I didn’t do it. you should know this until the day the retained list came out, but someone informed me.

“That makes a lot of sense. You have to offer him equal or better terms and he can refuse.”

He ended his career at Hibs under his old Bluebirds boss Malky Mckay, who is sporting director at the Scottish club, and will now work under him as director of technical performance.

“Having made the decision to retire from football, I am delighted to be offered the opportunity in this role at the football club,” he said. “I have come to know and understand the club over the last two seasons and I look forward to working closely with Malky Mackay to create an environment that can deliver success both on and off the pitch.

“This new role is a great opportunity for me to work in different performance departments within the football club and learn from Malky who has years of experience in the game.

“The support of the fans will be vital to our success and I know, as always, you will be there for the team, David Gray and his coaching staff. I’m looking forward to starting the 2024/25 campaign.”

McNaughton: Title triumph as good as winning Championship with Cardiff

Another Cardiff hero, Kevin McNaughton has opened up about getting promoted with Dundee North End.

Aged 41, he is co-manager alongside Lewis Toshney, the pair securing a junior title triumph with the club. McNaughton’s playing days were behind him and he struggled to cope with retirement.

Indeed, he sparked concern around the football fraternity, including Cardiff City fans and old team-mates, with worrying posts on social media two years ago. But now, on the touchline with Dundee North End and with hip surgery easing a lot of pain, he is happy again.

He told the Daily Record: “I feel great in my head right now. I still have to deal with it, it’s not something that just went away. And I can still get myself into a mess sometimes if I get caught up in stuff. .

“But overall it was very good. Football definitely helped – it was a release for me. I actually enjoyed playing again as much as I enjoyed the coaching part. It was brilliant to have a team of over 35s. I missed it.

“I would try to stay involved through training, but my hip was in pieces. It was knocking me down, I couldn’t move properly. Now I can hang out with the boys to get me through. I feel like I have a new lease on life and the hip protection was definitely a factor. Before I could barely put my shoe on in the morning.

“Even though it’s a physical thing, it takes on the mental range. I would go for a run and it would swell for two days afterwards. That gets to you after a while. It all became a chore and it became too much for me.

“For a while I gave football a total turn. I was a coach at Dundee but due to circumstances I decided to leave football. I took a break from it because I had too much going on in my family life.

“But I got the same joy out of winning this title with Dundee North End as I did winning promotion with Cardiff into the Premier League. Exactly the same. It was hard, but I loved every minute of it.”
