Samsung laptop owners warned after screens ‘suddenly crack’

Owners and users of Samsung laptops have been warned after the devices started ‘cracking’ right in front of them. The tech giant has been criticized by customers, one of whom contacted the Guardian newspaper through its consumer affairs section.

They wrote: “In February I bought a Samsung Galaxy Book 360 convertible laptop from Currys and paid £1,279. After a few months, while sitting on a table overnight, two cracks appeared on the screen. This device has never been dropped. or damaged by me.

“Confused as to how this could happen, I started looking online, only to find that hundreds of others had apparently reported the same experience. There are forums on Samsung’s website with post after post about people’s screens breaking in whole by itself.”

MORE Martin Lewis says state pensioners could get £6,100 in top-up payments but must ‘act now’

“We are sorry to hear of the frustrating situation JB experienced with his tablet and are pleased to share that the case has been resolved with our customer receiving a full refund as well as a goodwill gesture totaling £100 Currys said.

“We are also giving internal feedback to our teams to ensure they are well informed and this situation does not happen again.” And Samsung says: “At Samsung we stand for device quality and take customer concerns very seriously.

“We have investigated JB’s claim and are sorry to hear about his negative experience, but are pleased that it has been brought to a satisfactory conclusion.” In response, one customer said: “So Currys and Samsung being happy to stick their fingers in their ears in response to lots of regular people complaining about the exact same problem says a lot about how much they value their customers, especially when when a question from the Guardian’s Consumer Champions reverses its attitude 180 degrees.”

“So JB has had a resolution, thanks to The Guardian – but what about the others who seem to have the same problems? Will Samsung bother to do an investigation or will they just let retailers turn away disgruntled customers?” he asked for a second.
