Hospitals Ice Cream Anniversary | Cornwall Business

A Cornish ice cream maker is celebrating 25 years of supplying the Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust (RCHT).

In 1999, a dedicated catering professional led a project to provide a tub of Callestick Farm’s vanilla ice cream to patients at RCHT. The tub was developed specifically for the contract and was soon enjoyed in all three Cornish hospitals. Since then, Callestick has supplied 1.3 million tubs of ice cream.

“Being able to bring a little joy to patients with our small tubs has been something we’ve been proud to continue with hospitals for 25 years and hopefully many more years to come,” explained Callestick MD Sebastian Parker.

Senior Facilities Manager Helen Tyler added: “Our partnership with Callestick Farm is one we really value. At RCHT, we have an ethos around promoting local businesses. Over 50% of the suppliers we use at RCHT are local to Cornwall. From a sustainability point of view, local procurement is a must, so we invest as much as we can locally.

“When new packaging rules were introduced as part of the national NHS Net Zero plan, we switched from using polystyrene packaging, which is no longer suitable for use. To ensure that our valuable partnership can continue, Callestick Farm and their marketing team have worked with us at RCHT to redesign all of our hospital packaging so that we can continue to offer Callestick Farm ice cream to our patients.”

To celebrate the past 25 years of supply, Callestick Farm is working closely with the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Charity to help raise funds for the work they do in supporting patients and families through treatment.

Ten pence from every scoop of Clotted Cream Vanilla ice cream served this summer from Callestick Ice Cream, located just outside Truro, will be donated directly to the charity.
