Former Super League center signs for new club

Former Super League center Dean Whare

Former Catalans Dragons and London Broncos center Dean Whare has signed for a new club just two years after leaving Super League.

A starter in the 2013 World Cup finals for New Zealand, Whare spent a decade playing in the NRL with the Manly Sea Eagles and Penrith Panthers before moving to Super League.

He was a key member of the Dragons side that reached the 2021 Grand Final, scoring memorably both at home and away to St Helens on the road.

However, a significant pectoral injury in 2022 hampered his ability to retain his place in the team and despite playing all of the final regular season games and the defeat to Leeds Rhinos, he left the club to join Pia Donkeys in France.

His return to England midway through the 2023 season was a successful one, scoring 12 tries in 13 games as London Broncos were promoted to Super League.

Despite this, he headed back to France to join Pia Donkeys.

Now he found a new club.

The Dirty Reds were said to be Sydney’s first rugby league club, having been formed in 1908 and reformed in 2015.

He now plays at development level, competing in the Ron Massey Cup and the Sydney Shield, operated by the New South Wales RL.

The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs field a team in the Ron Massey Cup, but most of the participating clubs are more obscure.

The Dirty Reds face the Bulldogs this Saturday and are currently third in the table, two points behind the league leaders.
