What ‘Leeds sources’ are now saying about player sales in the summer transfer window

Journalist Ben Jacobs has shared an update on Leeds United’s need to sell players this summer.

The Whites will be able to officially begin their transfer business from Friday and it could be a busy period at Elland Road.

Daniel Farke and co have already made a huge decision this week, with Brenden Aaronson set to return to the squad for pre-season following the end of his loan spell at Union Berlin.

It was widely anticipated that he would be sold for a substantial loss this summer, but following discussions with Farke and the impact it could have had on Leeds’ PSR compliance, he will be brought back into the fold.

And there are many more such big decisions to be made, including the other returning loanees and some of the key players from last season.

Ben Jacobs shares what he’s heard about Leeds’ need to sell this summer

Jacobs gave an update on Leeds’ financial situation in an interview on the Just Joe Football Show on Tuesday night, where he also discussed a number of other topics.

These included an update on Leeds’ interest in Alfie Gilchrist, as well as their reported pursuit of Excelsior winger Couhaib Driouech following reports from Holland earlier this week.

While revenue will be vital to Leeds’ chances of promotion, so will their ability to retain at least some of their key players.

Reports claim that Leeds will need to raise £100m in sales over the course of the summer, but after speaking directly to Leeds ‘sources’, Jacobs dismissed this claim, also pointing to the exits of Luis Sinisterra and Tyler Adams, who are also in the current financial year.

He said: “There is an acceptance within the Leeds hierarchy that there is some financial pressure to balance the books, but again when you look at the current financial year which has not been declared, you have a push on the accounting from Adams and departures The sinister.

“Some sources in Leeds are saying that instead of looking at £100m in sales, which maybe Summerville is a third of that, you should drop the Adams and Sinisterra thing so it’s not in the water warm financial as much as it was painted. regarding those outputs.

“There is no doubt there is interest in Summerville and it will be very difficult for Leeds to keep him. But what I said before, like in January, the player never looked for the move in terms of forcing the exit. He could have moved in January but he wanted to stay and try to help Leeds get promoted.

“But it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to realize that if you don’t get promoted, your assets will be threatened. There is this opportunity for applicants. I think the number at the Leeds end will be painted at around £40m, but suitors feel £35m could be good enough.”

Jacobs shares Archie Gray’s stance on leaving Leeds

Archie Gray is among the big names at Leeds who have been linked with a potential exit, and Jacobs also shared an update on his future in the interview.

Gray is wanted by some of Europe’s elite clubs, including Bayern Munich, and is arguably Leeds’ most valuable asset, and if he were to be sold, he would clearly help PSR immensely.

However, Gray has been a Leeds fan since childhood and is the last player supporters would want to see leave after just one year in the first team. Fortunately, it seems that Gray shares the same position.

He said: “All the Grays are very much in their thinking and very happy to stay, even if it’s another season in the Championship. He came through the U21s and finally a breakthrough season doesn’t mean you have to skip it.

“I’m not sure many of the clubs linked to Gray can give him the game time needed for his development. Look at Liverpool who are very close to the Gray family and I know for a fact that the player, the players family and those around him respect the people at Liverpool who have been in touch, especially the head scout Barry Hunter…

“In the Gray family’s view, the best place for him is Leeds United and so it will take something quite special, or financially urgent from Leeds’ perspective, to change that.”
